about

Recorded in 1981, Black Teardrops is an atmospheric nugget of South African Soul-Funk-Jazz from the master tape vault of the iconic As-Shams/The Sun label. It's the soundtrack to a time of potent creativity framed by social turmoil and political violence, by the creator of the Black Disco albums.

A single edit of the thirteen and a half minute album opener "Lament" is presented here as an icebreaker for our December 2020/January 2021 reissue. Our edition of 500 vinyl LP sees the album repressed for the very first time since its initial release 40 years ago. Released in partnership with bandleader and composer Pops Mohamed and producer Rashid Vally.
